CHRISTMAS CUP PREVIEW: Is Don, Is Good!

Feature greyhound racing heads to Healesville on Sunday with the running of the $8,940 Christmas Cup (350m).

This is Healesville’s final race meeting for 2015, with the club to thank its supporters with a great day of entertainment including a barbeque, appearance from Santa and live music that will be playing long after the final race on the card.

The Christmas Cup field has come together very nicely and here are my thoughts on the race.
I’m keen each way here on Dr Don (8). A prolific winner, he led and was run down in his heat last week in the slowest time, but the key I feel for him is that he’s drawn to get clear running early.

A few of the other favoured runners have drawn awkwardly and aren’t the most brilliant of beginners. I think if he can step cleanly he will run a tremendous race. His main danger most certainly has to be Bejay The Dejay (6).

He broke the track record in his heat last week so clearly is at the top of his game. He has drawn a shade awkwardly but he is flying and will be hard to beat.

Next best is Nunya Tron (5) the Warrnambool Classic winner from earlier this year is in red hot form winning his last three impressively. He isn’t drawn well here as he isn’t the best of beginners but he has oodles of class which will take him a long way.

Other small chances go to track specialist Uncatchable (2), Senor Grumpy (3) and Berserk (5) and Call Me Hank (7).

MY CHRISTMAS CUP SELECTIONS
8 – DR. DON
6 – BEJAY THE DEJAY
5 – NUNYA TRON

On a good even card of racing others I like throughout the day include Chloe’s Entity in Race 5; well drawn she should be very hard to beat. Extradition in Race 9 was a terrific winner in 19.38 last start and a repeat of that would find him very hard to beat again on Sunday.

In Race 11 on an each way basis I think My Baby Porscha can run a race from the outside box. Rated a $10 chance by The Watchdog, I think that’s a nice price.

HEALESVILLE FORMGUIDE

If I had $20 to punt at Healesville this Sunday, here’s what I’d do…

Race 9 Box 5 (Win) into
Race 11 Box 8 (Each Way)

$5 Quaddie (Races 5 to 8):

$10 Trifecta (Race 6):

WATCH: Bejay The Dejay’s track record breaking heat win in 18.75sec.
