Former NSW trainer Anthony Azzopardi made his first trip to Healesville on Sunday and secured four finalists in this Sunday’s 2016 Healesville Derby (400m) final.
Group 2 Maitland Cup winner Marbo’s Magic is the biggest name to qualify for the $10,000 final after winning by over six lengths in 18.857sec (best).
Azzopardi had four contenders among the five heats, all of which won. The remaining heat was won by Run Ollie Run.
“Anthony said he was very impressed with our set up at Healesville and would certainly be back,” Healesville GA Manager Cynthia O’Brien said.
Sunday’s final of the Derby will be supported by the 2016 Oaks (350m), which also carries $10,000 prize money including $7,000 to the winner.
