Have dog, Will travels – especially for a trifecta

Patience and a lot of travel is involved when you have greyhounds, just ask William McMahon from Darriman.  He has covered over 1000km in recent weeks making several trips to Healesville to prepare his team for the running of the GRV Vic Bred Maiden series, a race that offers up $7,500 to the eventual winner.

In the heats held a week ago he qualified four of his team for the final despite none of them actually winning.  His qualifiers all ran second but put in some eye-catching performances.  When the box draw was done, he looked like his luck might change for the final.

On the return trip on Sunday, all the luck was in Will’s kennel as he filled the top three positions in the event with his other runner finishing fifth.

Will’s team race with the prefix Dr. to their name.  On this occasion Dr. Tucker was victorious with Dr. Nathaniel runner-up and Dr. Madison filling third position.  This kennel trifecta pocketed the total prizemoney of $10,710 plus a Breeder’s bonus of $1,000 and all three of them are from the Bernardo x Dr. Dawn litter and Will bred them.

While we have no public attendance to cheer home the winners at the club at present due to the Covid 19 situation, and the weekend weather was nothing to smile about, Will McMahon didn’t seem to mind and I’m sure the trip will be one he remembers for some time to come.
