Feature Greyhound Racing this Sunday heads to Healesville where we have a wonderful card assembled highlighted by the finals of the Healesville Derby and Healesville Oaks.
Heats were conducted there last Sunday and in the Derby which will be Race 8 certainly the most impressive heat winner was Kel Greenough’s Allkel To Excel (8), he came out flying from Box 3 and gave nothing else a chance running 18.94 (Replay) which was clearly the fastest heat time and nothing broke 19 seconds all day.
He is drawn to get clear running from the outside and would only have to reproduce his heat run to be a big factor here. Main danger for mine is his kennelmate Yadi (3) who was a little slow into stride in his heat but came with a big finish to maintain his winning record. He would only need a little luck early to be a factor here and one at odds for a place could be Silvertop (1), although he looks outclassed he has a terrific draw, box speed and loves the fence he might be able to sneak into a place and he is certainly worth banging in multiples.
I think AllKel to Excel is a standout bet but he will be short so perhaps playing tri’s and first fours is the way to go here. Here is Allkel to Excel’s heat win last Sunday.
The Oaks is Race 6 and it looks a much harder race to sort out. I am going for some value and tipping Kyls Me Mate (8) in an upset, won very strongly from a wide box last week (Replay) and is drawn to get clear air next to a fast beginner who should cart her over and I think she can win again. Amelia Christa (7) certainly is a danger after her particularly good heat win when she had a heavy bumping duel midrace but was still good enough to score.
Also a terrific chance here is Kept Under Wraps (5) who was clearly the fastest heat winner but faces a different ask from Box 5 and will need luck initially. It is a tough tough race and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of 6 or 7 dogs win.
Here is the replay of Kyls Me Mate winning her heat
Other good chances on a quality day of straight track racing include Marie Schrader in Race 4 who was very impressive winning her debut at Shepparton earlier in the week, Aqua Lamont in the 10th who won brilliantly at Warragul on Thursday and also Major Talent in Race 11 who absolutely flies up the straight and should be hard to hold out.
All in all it looks a ripper day of racing at Victoria’s most picturesque Greyhound Track and I hope I have steered you into a winner of 2. Good Luck and Good Punting.
