Garry Selkrig is one step closer to achieving Healesville Cup glory with his rising star Peter Galo, a group win Selkrig wants more than a Melbourne Cup.
Peter Galo set the time standard in the heats clocking a blistering 18.883sec from box eight in just his sixth career start.
“It was the first time in his career he received a reasonably clear run,” trainer Garry Selkrig said.
“His win was breath taking and I am still trying to get a grip on what he achieved – he just has this amazing will to win.”
Not usually a drinker, Selkrig celebrated Peter Galo’s efforts with a Calton Draught following the heat and of course a homemade sausage roll.
Selkirg believes that Peter Galo is wise beyond his years as a race dog and that his talent can only be described as scary.
“For me it’s when he is going to break the track record – you haven’t seen anything from him yet.”
Jumping from box three in this afternoons final, Selkrig would prefer him drawn on the outside of the track.
Despite the multitude of group winning greyhounds making up the Healesville Cup field, Selkrig believes that straight track star Burn Like Fire is Peter Galo’s biggest competition.
“I’m not going into the race thinking that he is a certainty, but I have to have a little confidence because I know the talent this greyhound has.”
