Healesville regular Garry Selkrig is praising the clubs move to spread prize money throughout the year following his greyhound Splash Of Blue’s win in the Heros Of Healesville on Sunday.
The Heros Of Healesville event, which is run over the 350 metre distance was introduced to reward trainers who support Healesville on a regular basis.
The best eight greyhounds who consistently competed at Healesville were selected, earning their rug in the $7,000 feature event.
The Heros Of Healesville consisted of a variety of grades, which included veteran chaser My Wrecker who has just celebrated his fifth birthday.
But on Sunday it was Splash Of Blue who lead from start to finish thanks to an unfortunate scratching of pre-race favourite My Arizona Room due to a weight variation.
“Splash Of Blue was very lucky to win the race because of the scratching from box eight. My Arizona Room had the race won before the race was run, but that’s racing and Splash Of Blue deserved the win,” owner, trainer and breeder Garry Selkrig said.
The son of Stagger, who is also owned, bred and trained by Selkrig, stopped the clock in a best of the day time of 19.26 seconds.
Splash Of Blue has now had 24 starts at Healesville for nine wins and seven minor placings.

The Heros Of Healesville race was part of the reduction in prize money and group status in the Healesville Cup, which changed from Group Two and $67,000 to Group Three and $35,500.
“It is a great intensive and reward Healesville have given the regular trainers and dogs,” Selkrig said.
“Spreading the prize money around shows how much the club cares about its regulars.”
