Britton making a mark up the straight

Landmark (pictured – photo credits Jason McKeown) was the surprise victor in the 2016 Straight Track Championship Final at Healesville for trainer Robert Britton.

In a field packed with talent Landmark paid a staggering $13.50 for the win in the $10,000 feature over the 350 metre distance on Sunday.

“He is a very quick dog but his biggest problem around the circle tracks is being poor out of the boxes. He was defiantly suited out wide on Sunday, especially because the others dogs went towards the inside of the track,” Robert Britton explained.

Landmark’s Straight Track Championship Final at Healesville on Sunday wasn’t just his first win up the straight – it was also his first feature win in his 30 start career (12 wins and nine minor placings).

Last week in heats, the son of Where’s Pedro and Tiz Tears finished second behind Bear’s Gold from box one to make it through to the Championship (Replay).

Landmark’s victory topped off a fantastic weekend for Robert Britton and his team, which saw Space Star (pictured below) named 2015/16 Victorian Stayer of the year on Friday night at the Victorian Greyhound Awards and four winners and three second place’s rounding out the weekend.

“I thought Space Star would win the Victorian Distance Greyhound because he was the dominate stayer at the time.”
